Due to its ever-changing landscape and favourable weather, the island is also a hugely popular destination for athletes and sportsmen. With a variety of terrain, elevation levels and winds, Tenerife attracts many keen cyclists, surfers and triathletes every year - both for competition preparation and leisure. Arguably the best known attraction of the island is the volcanic Mount Teide, also described as ‘the roof of Spain’ thanks to its impressive height of 3,175 metres.
Its summit marks the highest point in Spain and the highest point above sea level amongst the islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Some of Tenerife’s other famous sights include the picturesque hamlet of Las Lagunetas, the beautiful wine and banana region of the Orotava Valley, and the wild and rugged Masca Canyon, a paradise for hikers. Starting in the town of Masca, make your way past the Hell’s Gorge waterfall and down to the sea where you can hop on a boat that will take you back to the Puerto de los Gigantes.
Watch in awe as you sail past the spectacular cliffs before arriving back at our hotel in Tenerife! Beach lovers will also be spoilt for choice with over 65 kilometres of coast to explore.
Holidays in Puerto de Santiago
Our hotel in Tenerife is located in the charming town of Puerto de Santiago, originally a fishing village belonging to Santiago del Teide, on the west coast of the island. Like all of our properties, the El Marqués Palace aparthotel offers welcoming, spacious and comfortable accommodation in Tenerife with plenty of charm and character. With a range of bright and inviting apartments in Tenerife, the resort is the perfect base for families, couples or groups of friends. El Marqués Palace is located close to the famous Los Gigantes cliffs, a spectacular sight to behold.
Their vertical walls and deep ravines are part of one of the most unique landscapes in the Canary Islands, and are bound to leave you speechless. Surrounded by quaint and colourful houses, the black sands of Santiago beach make for another striking sight. With a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere and a great variety of bars and restaurants in which you can sample traditional dishes of the Canary Islands, the small, picturesque cove has become one of Tenerife’s most popular holiday areas.
If you visit Tenerife in July, you can even experience a fantastic firework display in this lovely resort. Other places worth visiting in Tenerife include the cities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria or San Cristóbal de la Laguna and its historic centre, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.
