Enjoy a day trip to Formentera, Ibiza’s little sister island and a paradise on earth
Discover unspoilt beaches with white sands and crystal clear waters in Formentera
No holiday in Ibiza would be complete without a day trip to its neighbouring island of Formentera. Located just 10 nautical miles from the south coast of Ibiza, on a clear day you can see its outline on the horizon of the Balearic Sea.
From the port in Ibiza Town, it takes only 30 minutes by public ferry or private boat to reach Formentera, where some of the Mediterranean’s most spectacular beaches and crystal waters to rival the Caribbean await. As the smallest of the Balearic Islands, Formentera has a more tranquil vibe than Ibiza but its many fantastic seafood and beach restaurants still get very busy. Enjoy a swim in the dazzling blue waters and enjoy a lunch with your toes in the sand for an unforgettable day on Formentera.
Once you arrive at the port of Formentera, there are many places to hire bicycles, scooters and the island’s most iconic mode of transport, the colourful Citroën Meharis. The long, gently curved Playa de Ses Illetes is arguably the most famous and popular beach of Formentera. Here, you will find azure waters and dazzling white sands to rival the Caribbean! It is lined by many iconic beach clubs and restaurants, with the elegant Juan y Andrea, the laid-back El Pirata and the glamorous Beso Beach Formentera being some of the most popular options. Wherever you choose, make sure you reserve a table to avoid disappointment or long waiting times. During the high season, some of Formentera’s seaside restaurants are booked up for weeks in advance.
Other famous Formentera beaches include Es Pujols, Cala Saona, Llevant beach, Caló des Mort and Migjorn Beach. Other attractions not to be missed include the La Mola lighthouse, which offers spectacular sunrise and sunset views, the Ses Salines Nature Park and the picturesque village of San Francisco. Whether you choose to enjoy a lazy beach day, dine at one of Formentera’s incredible restaurants or explore inland, you will not regret an excursion to this paradise island!
