Weekend in Megève

HIV08_JANV16_GL022

Since the end of October I can’t stop thinking about our next holiday, and I’m starting to look up possible places, accommodation, transport… What we’re sure about at home is that we want snow!

We had such fun last year in Megeve that we are tempted to go back, and I’ve even rescued from ‘my notebook’ notes of our last winter holiday.

Do you want to know how to make the most of a few days in the snow? Then don’t miss this.

Family holidays in Royal Rochebrune.

10945036_760362637374316_109048428000605051_nWe arrived on Friday to Megeve from Geneva. We loved it! It was a moment of nerves and excitement while we gradually connected with the mountains and snow.

Just upon arrival we went straight to the hotel, to leave our bags things and see the super room we had. The kids went crazy when they saw the beds and the (secret) door that connected our rooms.

We rented the equipment for the weekend and bought our ski passes. The snow was waiting for us … and we were dying for Saturday to come to enjoy it.

But first, we had our first contact with Megève, a fairytale village that was going to surprise us round every corner and every street. Small bridges, wooden houses, lovely shops … all cared for up to the smallest detail.

We went back to the hotel for dinner at the restaurant, Le Gourmandier, whose chef Marc Anchieri has several awards for the quality of its cuisine. Everything was awesome and we really enjoyed discovering the typical dishes of the local cuisine. Then an early night because Saturday was our Big day.

As if it were Christmas morning, we all woke up early and went down to breakfast. We filled up with energy and delicious croissants in the buffet, we got our skis and equipment and headed to the slopes.

It a big surprise to discover that the tracks were only a few metres far. Finally, we were on our mountain, surrounded by snow and spectacular views.

Time flew while we skied, we played with the snow and took a thousand photos. When we realised we were ravenous and dead tired.

So we went back to the hotel to relax. We had a hot chocolate, some really delicious crepes and we even tried the typical local mulled wine. After the day full of snow we really chilled out.

After a refreshing shower, we went to the village for dinner, as I had read that there were several Michelin stars amongst their restaurants . And we ate like kings!
After a pleasant walk through Megeve, we returned to the hotel. We still had a day of snow left before going back home.

Sunday was just as great, with more laughter and more skiing, more photos, more croissants, and also a little sadness. Because we had to go back, leave our deluxe room, our fairytale village and the spectacular mountains.

Do you understand now why we’re dying for our next snow holidays to come?
