Descent of the Masca Cliff

2015-11-08-2-ruta-barranco-de-masca-el-teno-9-1-smallIf there’s something I’m sure about in life is that travelling is one of the most enriching activities that exist.

And traveling with the family the best way to have fun with your children, to know them better and to learn from them, and of course them from you.

That is why today my proposal consists of a thrilling adventure to share with the whole family during your holidays in Tenerife.

Undoubtedly, the descent of the Masca cliff is one of the most exciting and fun activities to do with your family on the island of Tenerife.

Just in case you haven’t heard about it or you never been to the island yet, Masca is a beautiful town located to the northwest of Tenerife, inside the Rural Park of Teno.

This park will surprise you because it is one of the best preserved places of the archipelago, both architectonically as well as rural, ecological and for its landscape. Its population lives on what it produces, on its own crops and livestock.

The most interesting part of this route is to enter the purest essence of the island, and discover the different types of landscapes, fauna and flora of Tenerife. Children will feel inside a magical world where they can unleash all their fantasies.

Although the word cliff or ravine sounds a little bit dangerous it is a very safe route if you follow the signposted route and if you descend with caution.

Obviously, don’t try doing it on a rainy day, that would really be taking a risk, but it would be the same risk here in Tenerife that in China.

The route begins at the homestead of Masca, and it is quite easy to find the path as it is well signposted. And in case of doubt you can ask, there are usually quite a number of hikers around always willing to lend a helping hand.

The excursion is really great, since the descent begins in the village, passes through the natural park and ends at the beach, where you can take a comforting swim, and from where you can take a boat to the port of Los Gigantes. And the fun doesn’t end here, because if you’re lucky you can see dolphins during the boat trip. A complete adventure!

The descent down the cliff lasts approximately two hours, with some fairly narrow stretches, and with the reward of reaching the beautiful crystalline beach of Masca. It is the perfect time to get your sandwich out, to rest, swim and ultimately continue enjoying the wild nature of Tenerife, while you wait for the boat back.

The boat trip back to port is another of the great attractions of this excursion, as passing under the spectacular cliff of the Giants leaves nobody indifferent, for its immensity and grandeur.

No doubt at all it’s one of the most beautiful excursions you can enjoy in Tenerife and one of the best to do with the whole family. Sport, adventure, nature … to enjoy a day to remember for a long time.
